Developing Reflective Practitioners

As a yoga teacher, I guide students to approach poses with a beginner's mindset.

Regardless of how long you’ve been practicing; Even if you do the same pose each day, how do you approach it from a beginner’s mindset every single time?

We do this to:

  • Notice anything new that we can learn, something we missed before.

  • Meet ourselves where we are each day. Balancing in tree may be easy for me today, but I may keep wobbling tomorrow.

The same is true with life skills. You may be a great communicator regularly, but what happens if you’re tired or emotionally invested? That ‘greatness’ may falter.

The skill didn’t disappear, but similar to tree pose, you need to meet yourself where you are at that moment, and that might mean more practice in a specific situation or environment.

We never master yoga but practice yoga throughout our lives
Similarly, we never master leadership, but practice leadership consistently.

What areas have you been practicing lately?
